Walter Kovacs stood in the alleyway across from the Trattoria, watching quietly with his picket sign in hand as Daniel, Laurie, Adrian, Hollis, and Jon filed their way out of Adrian's limousine toward the restaurant, with its freshly-painted awning and windows so new that New York had let to leave its watermarks on it. Veidt walked up to the maitre d, said something he couldn't quite hear, and they were all quickly ushered inside, Hollis the last of them to head in.
"Sure, Daniel," he muttered to himself, heading out of the alley to continue his route down the street. "Would love to join you all for dinner."

Hurm.
... I see struggle. War. Chaos. Two sides pulling, dark fighting for dominance over light. Not enough light left for even a slight possibility of victory. ... I see the darkness spreading whether we like it or not.
I see no chance of salvaging what was lost.

Rorschach's Journal. Date unknown. Changes in residents and surroundings are uniform in duration, but unpredictable in nature. Might wake up tomorrow thinking myself far-left liberal or with nothing to write with but blue crayons. Best to get thoughts out while it is still possible. Much to write down.
So far, few allies in fight against the filth-stained shroud of lies around the people in this place. Most seem content to let things be and cope in their own ways. Some listen - most too wrapped up in own selves, or think me paranoid or strange. In that way, not much different from home. Need to watch more people, figure out who is who - who I can trust. If anyone.
Might try finding out more about Peace Patrol, but I have sinking feeling that they are just a bunch of liberally-minded cowards who do not believe in true justice and an end to evil. Met one man, Clark, who believes in letting criminals live. Said he would stop me if I tried to kill anyone. By his own logic, would rather see more people hurt than see evil stopped. If rest of this so-called Peace Patrol are the same, might be as much a waste of time as Watchmen were, in the end. Might also end up being like Veidt - never can be sure. Must keep a closer eye on him, find out who rest of Patrol are.
Surveillance is important. Cannot walk around with sign like I did in New York, but so far no one here has seen me without my face. Will be very easy to watch people - just need to figure out where. Heard of place called Deathmatch - the very name stinks of deceit, wanton vice, and violent sensibilities. May have to sit there a while and watch. Easy place to find names. Will start compiling a list of people.... only two so far: Lucy Cole and Zelman Clock.
Also, as final aside: was approached via journal by Anonymous person who says they know what rots away behind the walls of this place - that they know secrets. Tried to warn me away by saying that investigation has consequences. Told them that I do not believe in compromise or retreat. Never surrender. Armageddon did not stop me, neither will the threat of amnesia or pain. These are all trivial things in search for truth. Will look through journal, try to match handwriting of Anonymous with a name. Should not have made things so easy for me ... could possibly be a trap. Will have to proceed with caution.
